Why the crop list is limited
Food Planner shows only active crops with reviewed, source-backed yield, plant-spacing, and row-spacing guidance. Supported crops already active in My Garden appear first; other supported crops follow. A crop you added privately or submitted for review can still be planted, but it will not appear here unless a reviewed planning rule is later connected to its public crop record.
Start from Add a Plant
After you choose a supported crop, one of your gardens, and a sized growing location in Add a Plant, Calculate Quantity & Fit opens Food Planner with that context. Review all assumptions and the selected space. Opening or saving an estimate does not create a planting automatically.
What your estimate means
Edaphia estimates target harvest weight, plant count, traditional row length, and compact-bed area from household size, servings, planning weeks, loss allowance, yield, and spacing. Ranges reflect uncertainty in yield or spacing rather than two separate beds.
Total and selected capacity
Total recorded space is the gross area of all sized active locations in the garden. Selected space counts only locations you intentionally choose for that crop estimate. Neither value proves that the area is empty.
Choose how to use the estimate
- Use This Recommendation in Add a Plant
- Returns the first succession date, spacing, crop, garden, and selected growing location to Add a Plant. You choose one exact quantity and review every field before saving. Saving links that planting to the first succession.
- Create or Update Planting Drafts
- Creates planned My Garden records for the succession dates or updates records already linked to this estimate. New succession drafts are intentionally unassigned to a precise growing location until you review and edit them.
How the estimate reaches Supply List
Before an estimate has a linked planting, its planting-material need can appear as Needs Review. Once a real planting or draft is linked, Supply List uses the linked planting records as the source of truth and excludes the estimate-only quantity so the same plan is not counted twice.
The exact quantity you choose in Add a Plant and any explicit seed, transplant, or other material choice remain under your control. Planning never silently adds a settled purchase.
