Plant spacing
Plant spacing measures center-to-center distance between neighboring plants. Closer spacing can increase competition and disease pressure; wider spacing reduces the number that fit.
Row spacing
Row spacing measures the distance between parallel rows. Traditional recommendations may include room for cultivation or walking and can therefore produce a larger footprint than compact-bed spacing.
Growing-area dimensions
Length multiplied by width gives gross square feet for a rectangular location. Subtract paths and unavailable areas in your real plan. Containers and irregular spaces may need a conservative manual estimate.
