Set Your Garden Location

Location gives Edaphia useful climate context. It does not replace current weather, local Extension guidance, or what you observe in your own garden.

Garden ZIP code

Use the ZIP code for the garden itself, which may differ from where you are today. A recognized ZIP can supply the city, state, USDA zone, and calculated average frost dates used by location-aware guidance.

Automatic ZIP matching currently covers the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. Gardeners elsewhere can leave ZIP blank when creating a garden and select a USDA zone manually.

USDA Hardiness Zone

A USDA Hardiness Zone primarily describes average annual extreme minimum winter temperature. It is useful climate context, especially for perennial survival, but it is not a complete vegetable planting calendar.

Edaphia combines zone context with frost dates, season information, crop adaptation, and regional recommendations when those records are available.

Average frost dates

Average last spring frost and average first fall frost are statistical planning markers. A frost can occur earlier or later in any individual year.

Use them to understand frost-relative planting windows, then check the forecast and local conditions before planting frost-sensitive crops.
